Ah, the coming Winter. Times of chimney smoke, crinkling wrapping paper, late nights with coffee. And gaming, too. Go hang out in a snowy area of your favorite game, go make a virtual snowball and kiss someone with a blast of ice to their arm.
We talk about gaming, True Blood, and Twitter. We have been so busy yapping about so many games, and working on many gaming projects, that we felt like doing a fun show. That's right, a fun show.

Sat, 3 October 2009 Spouse Aggro #89 "Wiz 101 Wins Why? and GDC Wrap-up." Yeh, yeh, we know. It's been a month. But during that month, we got out more articles, reviews and blog posts than we have done before. The audio podcast is just part of the larger picture of Spouse Aggro/Turkey Inc. We talk for an hour about Wizard 101 and how it might have achieved such success, and talk for a while about the general vibe from GDC. Developers seemed to be in two camps: those that were scared of Blizzard and those that made games that had nothing to do with the standard subscription based model and so were doing very well. It's something to consider: why do some of these games do it while others fail? Write us, or send in a segment. Call the phone line and leave a comment: 972-535-8867 Enjoy! Mon, 7 September 2009 Spouse Aggro #88: "Innovations and Toast."This week we talk for the duration of time it takes for the toast to settle in our tum-tums to talk about innovation, and I'm using Free Realms specifically to talk about a product and company that is innovative. Many players seem to think that Free Realms is nothing new, because it is doing what a lot of MMO's actually already are doing, meaning locking people into instances to run around a mini-game. But, I am talking about delivery and style. If players underestimate delivery and style, then they need to re-define what success means. My wrists hurt, please listen. Write us, or send in a segment. Sat, 29 August 2009 Spouse Aggro #87" A brunch with The Historian. A brunch with lasers." I sit down with Acclaim's wonderful and nerdy Community Manager named "The Historian" for a 30 minute chat about The Chronicles of Spellborn, community management, and collecting Atari consoles. I plan on doing more of these developer/community/insider interviews...just 30 minutes, some chat and a little bit of an inside look into these games we love. I would LOVE to get one of the developers of Spellborn on the show, to chat about the wonderful art, music and game-play of that game, but we'll see! :) Write us, or send in a segment. Fri, 28 August 2009 *EXPLICIT*Me and Leala have discussed things for a while, and decided to break away from Virgin Worlds. This does not mean, in any way, shape or form, that we have any issues with Brent or the site. This is simply about having direct control over when our file goes up, and access to all sorts of information about the files. I cannot even begin to thank Brent for his contribution to not only Virginworlds, but to us as well, and for setting a bar for podcasting that, to this day, is a very high bar. This is a matter of spreading ourselve a little thin, as well, being that mmovoices.ning.com is taking over some of our time, along with writing for various sites and planning travel to games conventions. We would like to tell people that if you normally get our podcast off of iTunes, that this current file in this current post is on a NEW feed, but we will be receiving the old feed soon. In other words, you might not see this podcast updated in iTunes. This is just a temporary holding area because we needed to get this show out before we recorded another. We finished it a while ago, and want to get the Blizzcon stuff out of the way and also do not want to be so late to the party. Anyway, there it is. We will see you on the old feed as soon as we get control of it, and thank you for all your support. And of course, thanks MORE THAN WE COULD EVER TYPE to ViriginWorlds.com!!!!! -----------------------------------NOTES---------------------------------------------------------- Me and Leala sit down WITHOUT food (trying to keep the chomping noise down) to talk all about all the really cool stuff that was announced at Blizzcon. Needless to say, Blizzard wins again. Then, I get to run down my list of really cool games that I am playing, beta'ing and looking forward to. I want all of you, yes ALL of you, to try these games and call the number with your thoughts! And I wanted to add on to the show my interview with Mark and Steve from Ablegamers.com. I thought I would save it for the next show, but I wanted to get the interview out there. I'm so excited to be dealing with their site, so go visit it at ablegamers.com!! 972-535-8867 Enjoy! Tue, 28 July 2009 You know, there are pod-casters out there that think it is cool to talk
in a "radio guy" voice, or to play music the entire time in the
background, or to not only whine about a game over and over, but to
whine about a game you don't really play. We talk about one of those
guys. Those guys seem to think that there are rules to follow in this
hobby, which is mind-boggling to me. How boring. We talk about Mabinogi's flying mount switch-a-roo, play a bit of Elvis, and discuss Ecks Bocks and if it is indeed fun. It has proven painful to me more than anything. Write us, or send in a segment. Call the phone line and leave a comment: 972-535-8867 Enjoy! Send emails to spouseaggro at yahoo dot com. Thu, 16 July 2009 We record at home this time, and I freakin' LOVE it. The little iPhone
mic picks up things so well, it's really as good as some of the other
mics I have tried. It's so good that you can hear what sounds like our smacking, but since that grosses people out we have been so careful about it that I was surprised to hear that on the recording. It's the salad, I found out. Crunching, wet...sloppy. SALAD. We chat about Leala's guild drama. She cries, we start to have a mental breakdown and then I shoot one of the dogs. Normal stuff. Enjoy! Mon, 6 July 2009 Spouse Aggro #82: Live, Living and Love for the last 10 years!Me and Leala crack open the live experience again, complete with a half-arsed web-cam mic, a room full of friends and technical difficulties. Every time we switch virtual recording studios, we take a bit to adjust. Forgive us? Leala has moved on from her podcast, and will continue to co-host SA with me. I have decided to host a Free Realms podcast (it helps keep me normal) but have no plans to let Spouse Aggro go anytime soon. Spouse Aggro is a mutant, always changing, and I love it. We talk about the last 10 years of gaming and what we might have learned from it. Next live show (watch for announcement) should be better, technically. Learning processes people, learning processes. Tue, 30 June 2009 I interview my buddy Burtimus, who has a beard. He kept incredible notes from Fan Faire, and has attended the convention for the last 3 years. He goes over all the Vanguard panels, and gives his impressions on what he heard. He will come back on to cover more of the things he heard at FF, cool things from other games. Excuse the sound, and the mess-ups. Me and the wife are making a slow transition into live recording, and even slower into live video recording. During recording, I had a small house-fire, barking dogs, spilt beer and message pop-ups messing with my ability to actually talk like a normal person. But, we get it done. Burt rules, and gives out some great VG info. Interestingly, Silius commented on the forums to not blame SOE for the lack of mention in Smed's address: "In regards to not being mentioned at the keynote speech I am asking that you guys please not read into it. I will take the blame for it as we just did not have anything prepared to go up there with and preparing for Fan Faire was not in the forefront of my mind this year as I tried to get settled. If you are going to get angry at someone please get mad at me but please do not assume it means the SOE does not like VG. There are some talented people on this project and if SOE did not care about VG then they would take that talent and use it somewhere else." Of course, this now means that players will have protest signatures that say "Fire SILIUS" instead of "BOYCOTT SOE," but either way it is entertaining. Enjoy! Tue, 16 June 2009 Italian Albanians, Darkon and DARKFALL REVIEW-ish.WARNING: EXPLICIT CONTENT. WE SAY THE S WORD AND THE GD WORD. SO, so...SO, we like, went to one of our favorite Italian restaurants to catch some lunch, and lo and behold the crowd was small so it was the perfect time to record! We were halfway through a very poop-filled weekend, thanks to a tornado, a backed up sewer line and tree branches in the yard. Needless to say, it was hot, sticky and not a very good time to record. Yet, we did 'cuz we are hardcore. We are talking about Darkfall, and I go a bit more into some of my reasons for liking it and disliking it. I will still give it much more time, but at this point I am not sure I will re-sub after this month. Great game, needs some work, and we talk about it. Then we review Darkon, a documentary about LARPers. You can watch it for free on Hulu right now, and if you are worried about "spoilers," skip our review until after you watch it. The music from the show is from Jimmy Eat World (not bad for older emo dudes,) Neil Young, some dude named Bach and a band called Pink Floyd. You'll recognize the songs, I hope. Let us know if you prefer the music coming from better known artists or if I should go back to indie chicks. I like indie chicks, but after a while they all start to sound too breathy. Wed, 10 June 2009 SO, this week we visit resident old-person hangout Cracker Barrel for authentic 1872 cooking. Well, 1972 at least. Our waitress was named Cheetara,
but she didn't have a one-piece on or a baton weapon. I had the hots
for Cheetara when I was a kid, but never beyond my feelings for Jessica
Rabbit. The setting was perfect to ask the question: "Am I too old for this?" So, are we? Why do we play these games set in fantasy worlds beyond imagination? Why do we play for several hours during the week, some of us playing more than we work? Why do some of us avoid "real life" activities like going out to dinner so that we can order pizza and log in? Isn't this something that only children are supposed to do? Or are we adults just children ACTING like adults? Do we have such adult thoughts all the time that we never think the same thoughts we did as a kid? Our songs this week are perfect for the show: "Young Americans" by David Bowie, "American Girl" by Tom Petty and, for some weird reason, "Working for the Weekend" by Loverboy. Please, parents, take no offense when I say that children have, essentially, taken all the fun out of the house. If that's the case, someone needs to tell my friends like Shuttler and Cindy that they are not having fun. Because those two are having a BLAST. So STOP IT. You HAVE CHILDREN. I'm kidding. Next week we are going to record the "Darkfall Preview" show. At the time of this recording I had not tried it, but have since. Enjoy, and contact us: Send emails to spouseaggro at yahoo dot com. Thu, 4 June 2009 This week we take a step outside of one of our favorite breakfast spots
and enjoy lot's of cars, smog and birds going CAWWWWW CAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!We are discussing my blog that I wrote in which I told stuffy people to go stuff it when over-analyzing Free Realms. But let's be clear: Van Hemlock are not the ones I meant. Van Hemlock can over-analyze a tack and it would be good to listen to. I was simply talking to about 5 or 6 very specific bloggers/podcasters that said such silly things as "...the quests are typical MMO drivel..." and "..the game reminded me of a more grindy WoW." For the record, I was in not referencing Syncaine, but did so in the show because he came over to my blog and commented on why he thought the 2 million user announcement was "funny." (As though he caught SOE red-handed at some kind of cover-up.) Syn is actually a fun guy to argue with, because he is the ANTI-me, he is a RULE-player while I am a ROLE-player. He follows the rules, let's games tell him what to do and thinks that anything outside of those rules counts for nothing. All these rules set in lands that are populated by monsters and faeries, strangely enough. Still, I can see what he means. But you can find the "evil cover-up" in anything done by any corporation, because the purpose of a large corporation is to make money. There is no cutting off point. But that's not evil, really, that's just life. So I was addressing weird blogger/podcaster people that seem to think they are holding gaming companies to task, or think that their whining and bitching makes some kind of difference. Even if their whining and bitching influenced a decision at a gaming company, that is neat, but not something to use as a life goal. Again, we are talking about VIDEO GAMES here. Video games are meant to be enjoyed. If you do not enjoy them to the point that you are always bitching about them (a little bitching is healthy and normal), you are weird. Get a hobby that you LIKE. Now, enjoy the show. I wish we would have taken a picture of the tan lady, being that she seriously looked like she had a problem. I am a funny looking guy, and don't judge people on their looks, but this lady was so tan that she was obviously addicted. The music on the show comes from all sorts of sources. the jazz tune being from a dude named Paul Bley. The song was called "Time will Tell." I love stuff like that, to a point. I want to buy the soundtrack from the movie "Naked Lunch" based on the book by Billy Burroughs. Then I threw in the beginning "song" from Anarchy Online, one of the BEST ways to fade into game-play in any MMO. Also, got a lil piano in there from the movie "Amelie." Tue, 26 May 2009 "Isle of Dawn, Filthy Pigs and YOU"So yeh, I lost the pic of our food. It looked delicious, trust me. Me and Leala decided to talk a bit about Vanguards' trial and if we prefer quests in which you do crap or just really challenging stuff that makes you like die 200 times. (Good times?) Essentially, I like to "do things" in game. I am kind of always role-playing, in the way that I take little breaks for my character, read everything and still use UI Immersion Project rules. But, quests that are just "doing stuff" don't last as long as quests in which you have to kill 4000 mobs, so how does a developer stop players from burning through thier much cooler, yet shorter, content? Who knows. I ain't a dev.. Not yet. The rain and "Dink!....Dink!..." sound comes from Mabinogi. I was standing near the blacksmith, hiding out from the rain. The sounds were nice. If you would like to record your in game sound, go get Audacity, hit "What U Hear" as your source, and send the MP3 to us so we can include it in our show! The music this week comes from some weirdo band called "Bats for Lashes." Kinda' gothy, I guess. The song is a Cure cover from my youth. Well, the cover is not from my youth, but the original is. We used to love the Cure! Send emails to spouseaggro at yahoo dot com. Website found at spouseaggro dot com. Twitter name: spouseaggro Skype name: beauturkey Now GO LOG IN! The Turkeys Comments[0] |

"Brisket, MMO's, avatars and YOU" MMmmmmMMmm, here's what we ordered, and here's the BOOB CRAB! So, we decided to go have some BBQ for dinner. Beau is seriously considering becoming a vegetarian. Seriously...but AFTER this meal. Some beef, some beers, and some good MMO chatter. We are discussing avatars and how that might give a clue to who is behind the avatar. We use Shut Up We're Talking (a great VW podcast) as a jumping point. Then, this crazy young girl comes up and makes us a crab. A boob crab. She was very nice, and I felt bad that I had no cash for a tip. Then I felt bad because I indicated that her crab looked like it had boobs. Then one of his legs popped. I liked it. The part where we go "yayyyy" reminds me of A Christmas Story, the scene in the Chinese restaurant at the end. You know the part...the guy chops off the ducks head and the family goes "YAYYYY!" The sound of the crickets and stuff was from Beau playing Vanguard. I love background sounds...ambience. Send in your games' sounds and we'll pop it in a break! Who likes music? DUH...me. This weeks song is by one of my current sad song fav's: A Fine Frenzy. The song is called "Near to You." Send emails to spouseaggro at yahoo dot com. Website found at spouseaggro dot com. Sun, 10 May 2009 "Breakfast Supper"The Highlights from show 75! Beau and Leala break a bit of the mold as they have breakfast at 6 o'clock at night. They venture to a local iHOP (like iPhone, 'cept breakfast) that serves crazy piles of strawberry pancakes and watermelon muffins topped with entire whole halves of a pig. A lady with a noisy kid shows up and stays actually pretty quiet, we order food and discuss Free Realms and how people think it is a "kids game." We are always looking for locations to record in, and some record better than others. This location does pretty well, sounds better on headphones, and the background noise gets quieter later in the show. We appreciate any patience as we work out not only places to record, but the shows format. I want the show to be a slice from the lives of two MMO gamers. This is how we talk, this is what we talk about. Look! More music. This weeks sad music comes from Azure Ray, a suggestion from a Twitter friend. Go here to watch one of those videos that a fan makes of a still picture with the song in the background. And, of course, the "video" gets like 200k views. That's the internet for ya. Thu, 30 April 2009 "Breakfast Raiding and Runes of Magic!"The Highlights from show 74! 1) Beau and Leala welcome you to one of their favorite, and quieter, breakfast places. It's on main street. While it does get annoying when the after-church crowd shows up with their pent up loud kids, the place has good donuts. We talk about raiding and some of the issues Leala has been facing lately. (Hint: Crawl is a noob! hehe) 2) Then, sit in with Riknas from the Free 2 Play podcast, Troy from Travels with Troy, Shawn from Massively and someone's mother as they play Runes of Magic live. Instead of doing a typical edit (since we were all over the place,) I pushed all sorts of clips together to see how they sound. Funny? Yes, if you recognize how a bunch of dudes joke around! Look! Music? Of course. You will recognize all the small clips of songs, but our main theme this week was from Imogen Heap, and her song was called "Hide and Seek." Cool stuff. In grits? 2) Beau and Leala discuss a Ryzom thread that brought up the question: "Are developers transparent enough?" No, not see through. You know, like, do they communicate with their players? 3) The Couple of The Year talk a bit about beta's. 4) A little talk about what Beau and Leala have been playing (bad beta's, WoW, and too many games.) Look! Beau didn't forget to link the music notes!! Here's the artist, a lady named Ingrid Michaelson. The song is called "Corner of Your Heart." Good stuff. And yes, I KNOW that song was on that turd of a show called "Grey's Anatomy." Ok, I haven't seen it, but South Park made fun of it, so like, I have to think it's totally bad, mmkay? Mon, 5 January 2009 The Highlights from show 666!* Beau goes over his feelings for The Chronicles of Spellborn, a game that he has spied on longer than he can remember. (sidenote) Beau forgot to go over sound in Spellborn, which is incredible. Beautiful sounds of wind and nature, and incredible music. A little more than ambient, and even though a lot of the music is composed with strings and classic instruments, you can tell some of the sounds were done with a keyboard. This gives the game a feel of Sci-fi, without the aliens, blue people and ray guns. The sound design is amazing. Also, some Goth band did a video for a song that is now my guilty pleasure song. * What have we been playing this week/weeks? * Our New Years gaming resolutions! Mon, 17 November 2008 Voyages of Vanguard (and other fun and unusual games that you
might try out for a few weeks and get sick of then you uninstall it,
then later an expansion comes out and you think that you will try it
again so you patch it up and then make a blog about how it is still the
greatest game ever...) #60The highlights from this show: (Here's some free Raki jokes...for you, from me.) 1) How do you know a raki has been in your living room? You wake up angry at your dog for leaving muddy paw-prints, hair and toys everywhere. Then you realize you have no dog, and live with your mother in a one bedroom apartment downtown. 2) What is the mating call of the Raki? The sound of a can of Milwaukees Best opening. 3) What music does a "ready and willing " Raki listen to? Barry White. After all, they communicate through their feet. 4) How do you clip a Raki's toenails? Start by trimming his foot fur. 5) How do you know if a raki is in your house? Your vacuum and your drains are clogged. 6) How do you get a Raki excited? Mention the W-A-L-K word. 7) How do you make a Raki run and hide? Mention the V-E-T word. 8) How many children do Raki have? Doesn't matter, they just end up selling them at the corner Wal Mart out of the back of a Chevy Van, telling people that they "..forgot the papers, but can send them to you later." 9) Who is the Raki's arch enenmy? Bob Barker. A) Me and my lovely wife talk about her awesome little guild and how she maintains it. Her guild is full of crazy people, so the fact that she keeps it together at all says a lot. B) Then I invite Kal from the Ryzom boards on to talk about the very basics of Ryzom lore...there's so MUCH MORE to Ryzom lore, and we'll get to it soon. Any questions for her, send me my way! Sun, 9 November 2008 The highlights from this show:I explore what "sandbox" means. I covered this topic a few times, but wanted an update. I think it is thrown around as much as "polish" and needs to be stopped. Life is a sandbox, and yet we don't go around slaying orcs. Enjoy! It's a shorter, update show to remind everyone that this lil Raki has gone nowhere! I say goodbye to Ellyra and Glip, and talk a bit about what my lil Fox Dude has been doing. Here is the Wiki article on the MMO "Seed," the now defunct MMO that worked so well for my playstyle. I am still looking for any contributions or segments, in MP3 form, for the show. We giggle like schoolgirls, he says poo like, 56 times, and overall we have a good time discussing our favorite game, World of Warcraft. Aaaahhh see there? I keed. I mean Vanguard, noob. The beginning clip is from "Steel Magnolias", my favorite chick flick next to "Bridges of Madison County." I have always had a crush on Sally Field. If you laugh at this point, then you don't understand. An amazing actress, cute as a button, and can clearly portray all 7 stages of grief. Or 9 stages...whatever. The music is from the movie "Once." A good lil movie about musicians. Won Oscars and stuff. Comments[0] |

What are my plans for the show? What is going on? Why did Luper run off to a summer camp for nerds? Be sure to email me to be a guest on the show, or to send in a segment. voyagesofvanguard@yahoo.com The music for this weeks show: "Rainbow Connection" by Kermit the Frog. This was Kermits major hit, which was, according to his closest sources, about snorting angeldust off the butt of a swine. Years later he said of the song: "I hated it. I hated singing it, and I hated that g**damn banjo. Plunk plunk. I wanted to shove it straight up that guys *ss." Two weeks later Kermit was found dead, with a banjo string tied around his neck. Sun, 24 August 2008 Voyages of Vanguard # 52.1 AND 52.2Make sure to go to www.voyagesofvanguard.com read our blogs and articles! The highlights from show 51!: * Welcome to our Fan Faire Special! We originally planned to release a total of three chunks of audio! Instead, I have mixed the "normal" show with the "documentary" about the Live Quest. So, they are both on this one special..so keep listening through to the end! Then we had the bulk, raw audio from the panel discussions pressed into one MP3. So, go download those RAW FILES HERE. Bear in mind I have heard them 100 thousand times, but I could've still missed something. I don't think there are any curse-words, or anything silly, but let me know. Hell, I apologize now. Here are links to the puzzles from the Live Quest and the answers! Play along! Keep in mind that in the audio I skip maybe one or two of the puzzles, but they are still fun to solve. Here's a hint if you're stuck: get a Burtimus. http://vgplayers.station.sony. http://vgplayers.station.sony. http://vgplayers.station.sony. http://vgplayers.station.sony. The songs of the show? Well, the weird girl one is from Tegan and Sara, the song is called "Back in Your Head." Dance-able huh? The song at the beginning and end of the "documentary" is from the Vanguard soundtrack, which came with the Limited Edition. It's the Leth Nurae song. Damn purdy huh? Thanks to all those at Fan Faire, and thanks for all those that donated and voted and made it possible for me to go. Man, I owe you guys. Beau Comments[0] |

We talk lore, lore, lunch, mirrors, dragons, vampires, lore, and lore. Band of the show? Jane's Addiction, that's who. "Stop" is the song, and man I remember running around on Saturday nights listening to this, causing trouble. I loved this band and when I watch them ,and other bands from my Yute, I realize that so many bands nowadays are so so so so bad. Metal is top 40, and all the singers sound like Pearl Jam or Nirvana. And that was over a decade ago. I mean, Daughtry?? Seriously?? Comments[0] |
Mon, 28 July 2008 Voyages of Vanguard #50(*Warning*: There are some references to "Adult Beverages" on the show. No cursing, but references to "par**ing" and "b**r", as well as being "tr**hed". Tell the kids to leave the room. *Warning*) Make sure to go to www.voyagesofvanguard.com read our blogs and articles! The highlights from show 50: We had such a blast recording this LIVE show..here's a lil backstory: Luper: Hey Beau, let's do that live recording, again. This time just audio though. Beau: Good idea, Luper! Luper: Ok, let's start it early, to work out all kinks. Beau: Roger! *starts Skype* Beau: Hmm, I can't bring up the menu to moderate the room! That means that anyone can get in and talk on the mic! Luper: Hmm, don't worry, calm down noob. I'll just host my own room, and we'll see if I can moderate it. Beau: Oh my god I'm getting so mad I might throw up. Luper: Calm it down. Ok look, it works! I can moderate it! Beau: Ok, did you set it to take away the ability to talk from all guests? Luper: Ah, crud, I missed that I think. Beau: Don't worry, during the show, you won't be distracted by annoying kids trying to come into the room over and over. I mean, they call it griefing, but it'll be easy to keep up with it..I'll just be sassy and drink! But you, you have to not only keep an eye on all the griefers, but you have to talk as well! Don't forget to say things! Luper: Yeh, it'll be easy, AND fun! *starts to record show* Beau: Man, this is FUN!! *bbrraaappppp!!!!!* Luper: They're everywhere!! They won't stop coming in!! Beau: So, Luper, what did you do in game this week? We introduce some branches of the VoV tree on this show, talk to our fav's Faeren and Jute, and play the new theme song written by Faeren! IT ROCKS! HERE are the lyrics! Next week we will talk about Harassment in game and what to do about it, and Luper will be talking about some subjects of her choice! Fun Trivia: Karen actually said "goodbye" earlier in the recording, but I put it at the end of the show to make a little more sense. No, she didn't sit there say nothing the entire show! Fun Links: Go to vgwalkthroughs to see the Pawz the Bear video, the un-official VG video that everyone raved about, and OUR THEME SONG WITH LYRICS!! Comments[0] |

We DID A LOT! * Beau went to some dungeons, and Luper talks about a COOL high 30's dungeon. * Talk more about Fan Faire! * ISLE OF DAWN talk!! * Lupers phone rings and Beau's doggies bug him. * Beau gripes about the inability to get a racial mount (QQ) and Luper gripes (yawns) a bit too. Forgive the editing. It's crazy. I was SOOOOO tired, we had been up at 2 am recording because I had to be at the hospital to do my rounds. I missed some stuff in the edit. Oh well. Podcast Grp looking 4 EDTR. * At the end of the show is our new contributor, JUTE! She's doing a cool interview!! Beau and Lupita McCooingStein....that's STINE! PS: No one has guessed Silius' fav. movie yet! Keep the guesses COMING!!! Remember, the 25th of July will be our live, in-game recording of our 50th SHOW!! We will record live in game at Lupers' guild hall, but you will need to log in to Skype to join our live conversation. This will be at night, 'round 7:30 PM, Central time USA! This week's song is picked out by Beau and is "Everything's Ruined" by Faith No More! This band was fun back in the day, when I saw em live they threw a bunch of food all over. This band has my favorite drummer. To this day, if I record, I use him as a good sound to base my drum sound off of. Comments[0] |
Wed, 9 July 2008 Make sure to go to www.voyagesofvanguard.com read our blogs and articles! The highlight from show 46: * Guess who's back? That's right. It's SILIUS! Master of all things Vanguard! Not only does he get grilled and chilled by the VoV Criz-ew but he also gives us his opinions about some cool things like "hardcore" and da' riftways! Be sure to hear the important announcment at the end of the show. Also, make sure to submit to us (listen to the show for details) by EMAIL your guess as to what Silius' favorite movie is! If you get it guess what? He will name an item after you, in game!! Beau PS: We will also be doing a "mini-cast" this week, to dive into some of the subjects we have talked about with Silius. We'll let ya know when and where! This week's song is picked out by Luper and is Symphony X's song called "Serpent's Kiss." (Big surprise there, what else would you think a song like that would be called? How 'bout "Going Bowling?") next week is BEAU'S pick!! :) Comments[0] |
Sat, 28 June 2008 Make sure to go to www.voyagesofvanguard.com read our blogs and articlesThe HIGHLIGHTS from show 47: * Me and Luper talk about the recent patch and how cool the Mekalia event is!! *I make Luper very uncomfortable by asking her to show me her PC stats. Even though I am very comfortable with my stats, raiders often have a hard time confessing their uhm, possible shortcomings. Please feel free to cut our conversation apart and make a funny segment out of it! *Some Immersion Project suggestions! Some trivia: 1) Luper recorded, once again, from the inside of a jet engine. With a fan on. While monks chanted behind her. 2) Luper said the "S" word TWICE. She is in the corner on a time-out right now. 3) We recorded early enough in the morning to make us both sound kind of goofy once in a while. More than normal. Luper sounds like she smoked a carton of smokes, but she doesn't smoke. 4) I might have been wrong about how many FPS our eye can see. See here. Here's the second part of the thingy. There, so the 4 grand you spent on that machine that gets 150 FPS was SOOOO worth it. I spent 1200 on mine and the rest of the 4k on beer. The song of the show: Interesting story behind this amazingly beautiful song. No artist writes music like it anymore: A lawsuit was filed in 2004 by the family of Solomon Linda seeking damages for the copyright of the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." Mr. Linda had written and recorded the song in 1939 under the name "Mbube," which is Zulu for "The Lion." In 1952 he sold the copyright of "Mbube" to Gallo Studios, the company that produced his record, for 10 shillings (about 87 cents today). He also got a job sweeping floors and serving tea in the company's packing house. Born in 1909 in the Zulu heartland of Africa, Mr. Linda never learned to read or write, but he knew music and had the ability of writing lyrics. He died in 1962 at the age of 53, with $22.00 in the bank. His wife could not afford a gravestone. Over the years, more than 150 artists have recorded the song under the name, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." The song has survived many versions; a jazz version, nightclub version, folk version, pop version, and finally a 1994 Walt Disney hit movie under the name "The Lion King." Mr. Linda and his family should have enjoyed a very comfortable life, but instead, the family lived in Soweto with barely a stick of furniture, sleeping on a dirt floor carpeted with cow dung. His eight children survived on maize porridge, known as pap. When they passed a grade in school, their reward was an egg. Two died as babies, one of malnutrition. Solomon Linda's daughter, Ms. Nsele contends the family was hoodwinked by a South African lawyer, now deceased. They have won their law suit, and Ms.Nsele commented,, " I was angry before. They didn't ask permission. They just decided to do anything they wanted with my father's song. But now it seems we must forgive because they have come to their senses and realized they have made a mistake. The Bible says you must try to forgive." Her daughter Zandile corrected her by saying, "Not 'try'. It says 'forgive.'" In February of 2006 an undisclosed settlement was reached between Linda's heirs and Abilene Music, who held the worldwide rights. The heirs received payment for past uses of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and an entitlement to future royalties from its worldwide use. A trust has been set up to administer the heirs' copyright of the song. Excerpts from the article written by Sharon LaFraniere Comments[0] |
Fri, 20 June 2008 Make sure to go to http://voyagesofvanguardThe highlight from show 46: * You know what kind of people are SUPA' FUN to interview? One's that are named MOONLITE, Senior Customer Service Supervisor! She throws down facts about answering petitions, and how to talk to PvP fanatics! Near the latter half of the interview we break into essentially a free-for-all conversational "jam-session!" We had so much fun, and we thank the whole team for being so nice to us!! Beau PS: Next week is a "normal" show we think, then we will possibly have Silius again or the wonderful Ellyra! YAY! This week's song is picked out by Moonlite and is Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name"! Man, Maiden RULES! Some trivia from the show: Moonlite says "QQ" at one point. Glip LOVES Hillary Duff. When we started the interview, we thought we needed to interview 3 people at once. I think we recovered quite nicely. Now, check a look at the picture that Moonlite sent us: HERE. If you can guess who she is one stage, you will get some free cookies! And a shout-out, of course. Save the pic, circle her and send it back to voyagesofvanguard@yahoo.com Comments[0] |

He's in charge of roughly half the classes, and also has a VERY manly voice! This is FILLED with interesting Q and A! Thanks to him for taking time out from a lunch of Chicken Salad to talk to us!! Beau PS: Next week is the an interview with the wonderful MOONLITE! She's in charge of CS, and has a lovely British accent! And man, she's into METAL! This week's song comes from listener Nimbell, and is Blondie's "Die Young, Stay Pretty". A great pick considering my perma-death experiment. Comments[0] |

We go down the short list to talk about what worked and what was uhm, you know. * Silius' poll: go read it and figure out how you want to vote! * Random Items: a) Class lead vacancies b) Bring back Jaye! c) Listener email d) Custom UI! Go try the BETA! It rocks my Raki's fur!! Beau PS: Make sure to email us with your questions for Avair!! This week's song (Beau's pick again...Luper had a good metal song picked out so Beau gets it for the show. Then his wife says "You realize you'll have to bleep half the song?" So Beau scrambled and got one of his favorites ) is "Halloween on the Barbury Coast!" by The Flaming Lips. (Before they became weak. They used to be the LOUDEST band on the Earth. I would sneak into clubs and listen to them and watch them burn their drums. My lead singer Manson is in their documentary that came out a year ago.) Comments[0] |
Fri, 30 May 2008 Make sure to go to http://voyagesofvanguard .wordpress.com/ to read our blogs and articles!THE highlight from show 43: * Lead Designer SILIUS gives us so much cool info and addresses a ton of concerns! Luper tries her hardest to get hired by SOE while Beau is just dumbfounded because while he was doing this interview, he thought of nothing but the ANT MOUNTS!!!! (And they look SWEET.) We recorded this while people were logging in and loading the new patch, and it was exciting to watch the forums as we talked as they loaded up with praise for da' patch! There were a few issues, but overall the patch went off without a problem! Congrats dev's! Beau This week's song (Beau's pick again..) is "Doing it Right!" by The Go! Team. Comments[0] |
Sat, 24 May 2008 Make sure to go to http://voyagesofvanguard THE highlight from show 42: * Glip the Gnome graces us with his presence, talking about all sorts of stuff. He gives us not only the exact date of the release of GU6, but also tells me a special code that, if entered correctly, will flag my account with "GM Powers." * Also, he mentions the 10 new raid dungeons and the new "Trailer" house for new player housing islands. * He also talks about how stuff goes down in the offices, and how the sausage is made. We talk for just a bit about his father, Keith Parkinson. This should is geek-freakin'-tastic! Beau This week's song (Beau's pick this week...) is "Gnome with a Chainsaw" by Man Bites God. Sat, 17 May 2008 Make sure to go to http://voyagesofvanguardSome highlights from show 41: * What did we do for the last week? Luper has been playing some PvPness! Beau has been having some IMMERSION adventure!! * We answer an email about playing with family and friends. * We get REALLY angry and have a massive argument that is sure to upset anyone under the age of Tween. Seriously though, Beau had way too much coffee and was in a mood cuz' of the forums. Also, he ALWAYS plays the Devil's advocate and always argues the other side. He doesn't hate raiders and raiding, he just LOVES a good debate! Still, he apologizes for his rant. * Best of the BEST! This episodes' 4 most used words are: like, mmhhmm, you, know. Wanna play the game Luper plays with her little bro? GO HERE. And here is a great video of pvp server naughtiness with Lupita and her Crew! This week's song (Luper's pick this week...Beau will pick a CRAZY one next week.) is "Sleeping Son" by Nightwish. Comments[0] |
Fri, 9 May 2008 This week Luper is back for more! (Thank goodness she got enuf of Florida. What a strange place.)Make sure to go to http://voyagesofvanguard Some highlights from show 40: * What did we do for the last few weeks? * Some talk about further "Immersion Project" rules. * Luper gets MEGA preachy about exploiting and names 5 actual real players, by name, and gives details on how they exploited the mobs. And got loot. Good loot. * Best of the BEST! * Random email's and fart jokes. Here's the maps you can print out for yourself, hehe so we can woepway togever! Click this link, young warrior! And here's the Immersion guidelines! Here's the screenshots that favorite listener Jay sent, you know, the ones showing the beta water: Bad Water Good Water Here's a comment from the creator of MyUI: What a cool guy. I'm so glad he looked through me calling his UI "dumb" at one point...lol Anyway, check out his MOD! (link below.)
We received a good amount of email about the last show, and keep 'em coming! Again, if you have any subjects you'd like us to address, send 'em along! Remember, we can only pick a few to talk about, so convince us! :) Beau This week's song is "Skell" by the Tommy Hernandez, a good buddy of mine. This is one of his weird experiments that he's been doing lately. He's an incredible piano player and person. Go check his stuff here and HERE. Comments[0] |
Sun, 27 April 2008 Beau and Luper sat down to have a great
discussion. Beau wishes he had finished up his notes on the new
"Immersion Project" rules before the show, but reality had called him
away from the game too much this week. Beau wanted to talk about MyUI,
one of the UI's he talked about a couple shows ago, but they will have
to put that on next week's show. Beau was contacted by the creator of
the UI, and set Beau straight on some of the things he got wrong. Some highlights from show 39: * Luper talks a little bit about the "Best of the Best" and what's it's like from the inside! * Luper and Beau get down with economics, in a way. They talk about GU4 and what some are calling "Vanguard's Great Depression." * Luper goes crazy and tells what mobs lie in wait for you in APW. No strats, people, so don't fast forward to this part. Still very cool though! * Beau and Luper announce the NEW "Best of the Best" winners for this week. Grats players! * At the end of the show there is a special hilarious segment recorded during Beau and Luper's visit to the PVP SERVER! It's silly and fast. A few bits of trivia about this weeks show: 1) Luper says "doo doo" at one point, again. 2) The music behind the "Best of the Best" segment is from the "Karate Kid" soundtrack and was sent by listener Jay. Beau This week's song is "Peace Sells" by Megadeth. Luper picked it out, and Beau is happy about it. Next week is his choice! Comments[0] |
Sat, 19 April 2008 What a talk we had. Too bad a good deal of it wound up on the
editing room floor. And by floor I mean trash bin on my desktop. If I
hadn't trimmed it it woulda' went on for 2 hours! Some highlights from show 38: * Balance, balance, and more balance. What is Vanguard trying to do with balance? Is this a balanced conversation? What does Beau and Luper think about balancing balance? * We throw some shoutouts for the Best of the Best! (Can't find the Halgar information, if someone would be so kind as to send that to me.) * We throw down about some cool forum topics! A few bits of trivia about this weeks show: 1) Luper says "doo doo" at one point. 2) If you listen closely, you can hear a strange mouse clicking sound in the background, as though someone is playing Half Life 2 in the distance. 3) These two knuckleheads recorded with no show notes. Fun, but hard to do. Beau This week's song is "I Wanted to be a Bard" by Chama C. Fox. This song is brilliant! It reminds me of a combination of anime and saturday morning cartoons. Check out the lyrics and stuff here. (http://www.rakinews.com/Myrr Comments[0] |
Fri, 11 April 2008 This week Luper is back for more! (Thank goodness.)Make sure to go to http://voyagesofvanguard Some highlights from show 37: * We'll talk 'bout mods, I have been using some. If you want to try some out, here are the ones I have been trying: MyUI Darker UI Drox UI (the most used from what I can tell) * We talk about a cool dungeon that Luper likes a bunch! After this, you'll know what players mean when they say "they can flip." And no, it has nothing to do with politics. * We talk a bit about a listeners email, and will get to the other half of his email next week. * Then, we ask if Luper is a....a....DOUBLE BOXER!! Du du DUUUUUM. Lot's of people do it, we talk about it. We received a good amount of email about the last show, and keep 'em coming! Again, if you have any subjects you'd like us to address, send 'em along! Remember, we can only pick a few to talk about, so convince us! :) Beau This week's song is "Bone Machine" by the Pixies, one of the best bands in the world. PERIOD. Comments[0] |
Sun, 6 April 2008 This week Beau welcome his new fantastic co-host Luper!Luper is an amazing player, and will be sure to yell at Beau when he says ANYTHING noob-like. This show is coming out right after show 36, but in the 2 weeks between recording the segment for show 34 and now, Beau continued to record and plan. So, this show gets everything caught up and now sets next Thursday to be day of the show! So, see ya in a week! Highlights: *Beau talks to Luper about being in beta to now *Beau talks to Luper about metal, how silly Ibanez guitars are and how she feels about the APW drama *Beau Talks to Luper about class leads, what they are, where they are, and why they are important. I give Luper a decent amount of "hard time", because I am not typically one that appreciates raiding. But, I am terribly curious and would one day like to actually do some raiding in game. So, please excuse Beau's newbie questions. He cries out for information, and Luper delivers! This weeks song is "Nature of the Experiment" by Tokyo Police Club. Thanks for listening. Comments[0] |

Thu, 27 March 2008 Well here it is everyone, the last episode (Troy operated) of the Voyages of Vanguard.
Yes, sadly I am moving on to other projects. I have offered the show
to Beau Turkey to continue, and I hope he will continue to produce
great shows on the game -- he has the talent, energy, and drive to
really make the show shine. In this final episode, under my direction,
I give my farewell talk, then move on to some letters from Ratook and
Pidge, and the show ends with a riotous talk by Beau on all things good
and grand in Vanguard.Notes * Troy's Farewell to the Voyages of Vanguard * Ratook espouses his philosophy on the universe beyond the world of Telon * Pidge responds bluntly to his "big words" and high ideals * Beau Turkey talks about all things good, grand, and gratuitous in Vanguard Comments[0] |

Ratook and Pidge, his two main characters in Vanguard read letters to
each other. WARNING: Ratook

times. Following the letters, Beau talks about all the good things of
Vanguard, from his house, to saving for a boat, to what his characters
have been doing.Show Notes Ratook's letter to Pidge Pidge's Letter to Ratook Beau Turkey's Commentary on Vanguard Comments[0] |

helmets, flying mounts, and the modifications done to many classes in
the game. Beau rounds out the show with a wide number of topics
including his "Immersion" into Vanguard and his adventurers with his
Raki ranger. Enjoy!Show Notes * GDC Tales * Moving to the Test Server * Beau's Immersion Quest Comments[0] |

Wed, 9 January 2008 Troy and Karen return with a new show, for the new year! both talk
about the latest news in Vanguard, with each talking about holiday
festivities and quests. Troy laments about striking the words "polish"
and "optimization" from lexicon for the coming year. Karen gives a great shout-out to Lumio! Both hosts talk about how much they really enjoy seeing Lumio spreading great Vanguardian fun. Troy and Karen then talk about what they have been doing over the holiday season. Both talk excitedly about playing Vanguard and Everquest 2. During one of the many tangents, the duo talk about the problems of losing a guild hall and what the developers could do to prevent this. Troy and Karen battle over the idea of armor tinting, each with their own ideas behind the perfect visualization of characters. Karen loves the armor art in Vanguard, while Troy really would love to see armor tinting. What should the developers do in this new year? Troy and Karen talk about what they believe should be done to Vanguard for 2008. Karen who is stepping back from Vanguard for the moment: Look forward
to Troy and Karen teaming up for EQual Perspectives, a show devoted to

Thu, 22 November 2007 Shhhhh! We know we aren't suppose to put out a show for another week,
but Karen and I just could not stay away. We originally intended a
small show to tide the Vanguard followers for a week, but we found just
too much goodness and carried the show on for a whopping 1 hour and 32
minutes! In addition to our ramblings we have the very good fortune to
have Beau Turkey give us his honest opinion of the game -- find his
audio diary tacked on to the back of this special episode.

Mon, 29 October 2007 Along the way, Troy uses his character Pidglet to thwart and rib Karen
as much as he can. Karen and Troy start the show with a series of
shout-outs to the guys who post in the forums, then lead into a great
letter from Varka on DPS and how it may not be as easy as knowing which
weapon is the best. Following the discussion on weapons and Damage Per
Second, the two talk about the fires in southern California and some
various news events. Troy is upset this week with continued
performance issues and Karen tries to calm him down, but in the end
both agree that stability issues can be the undoing to the MMO. At the

time from the show.
